Day 6 - A Day with Katelyn

Katelyn has been part of the reading program at her local library. Since she had 10 books read to her (that's about one evening's worth!) she got a free pass to the Burke Museum in downtown Seattle and could bring a grownup with her for free too. So I was able to do that with her today.

First we took 2 buses to get to the museum. She likes the city bus and would repeat the computer voice that announced each "Next stop ..."

"I can open my mouth like the bird dinosaur!"

Her favorite at the museum was the hands-on weaving exhibit. She got the hang of it surprisingly quickly and worked on it a long time. She wove all the yarn available, took it all out, and wove it again.

Then she decided she needed to weave on the "red loom".

She was very tired after 2 buses and a walk to get home. After resting, I gave her a toy I had brought with me (not knowing that we would go to the museum, see dinosaur bones, nor do any weaving.) A dinosaur lacing frame! Again, she spent a long time working with it.

Later, we played "ride the bus to downtown Seattle" on the couch. We needed our babies, food, toys, and purses. Katelyn was the driver and the announcer of the "Next stop." Then she would turn off the bus, and we would have to get off and walk to the next bus stop with all our stuff. Then back on to the other end of the couch (a new bus), and off we would go!

A great day of real and imagined play. Thank you, Katelyn!
