It's Free for Seniors Day at the SAM, Seattle Art Museum! I love this art museum!
I'll just share some of my favorites...
Middle Fork by John Grade |
From Jacob Lawrence: The Migration Series
"From every southern town migrants left by the hundreds to travel north." |
"In the North the African American had more educational opportunities." |
Venus Revealed, 1973 by Helen Frankenthaler |
Mann und Maus, 1991 by Katharina Fritsch |
I have seen this one a couple of times before, but never noticed the face. Wonder how I could have missed it?
Takpekpe (Conference), 2006 by El Anatsui Made from metal tops of liquor bottles and evaporated milk cans, aluminum and copper wire |
Dancing Trees, 1980 by Milton Avery |
"In his mid-seventies, Avery brought decades of visual experience to bear on his perceptions of the world and an inclination toward simplification that may have intensified with his advancing age. Here, three monumental cones swaying in the wind take flight as trees en pointe, their girth making for a comic ballet."
Black Iris VI, 1936 by Georgia O'Keeffe |
Spring Ploughing, ca. 1940 by Thomas Hart Benton |
These playful greyhounds always delight me so I needed a new picture of them. I probably have one from each visit to the SAM.
Greyhounds Playing ca. 1916 by William Hunt Diederich |
Then it was time to return from downtown in time for the Our Beginning Art Show.
Travis in front of his and other classmates art in his very artistic tie-dyed shirt.
This one was made mostly by Travis and Katelyn.

Outer Space Ice Cream with Fairy Dust Sprinkled on it |
Sadly, we ended the day with lots of whining, crying, and "NO!"s ...and not just the grown-ups! Sleep now; hopefully happy tomorrow.
