Museum Days #1 and #2

The first Thursday of every month is Free Museum Day in Seattle. I always plan ahead for this. Today, Karen was able to join me for the morning to visit the Nordic Museum in their new building for the first time for each of us.

Beautiful hanging birds!

A Viking ship

The special exhibit was "The Vikings Begin" and included several very old (6th and 7th century) artifacts, mostly from burial ships.

Shoes made from fish skins!

Karen and Odin

It was fun and interesting.

Karen needed to work so I went on to the Seattle Art Museum which was also free today. The special exhibit was called "Like a Hammer" by artist Jeffrey Gibson.

"To me, a person who is 'like a hammer' is capable of building up and tearing down - envisioning something different and making it happen."

"You can speak to your grandmother or your great grandmother, even though you never knew them. You can call upon them and I think that they are more powerful there than they are here in many ways."    -Jeffrey Gibson

Music - Pink and Blue #1 1918

Yes, Georgia O'Keeffe for both!

Eve with Fish and Snake by Joan Brown
This one was life size and just caught my fancy!

Lots more, of course. You'll just have to come to Seattle and see for yourself.

Friday, I joined a senior group through Seattle Parks and Recreation to go to see the Chihuly Gardens and Glass at Seattle Center. Very cool!

As with anything Chihuly, no words needed, just "Oooo and Ahhhh!"

Totally amazing. Just fills the senses.
